Welcome to Aurora, Illinois.
a city of northeast Illinois on the Fox River west of Chicago. Population: 162,000, making it the second-largest city in Illinois.
About 110,000 of the city's residents reside in Kane County, while about 42,000 live in DuPage County. Only a few thousand Aurorians are in Will and Kendall Counties.
Aurora, known as "The City of Lights", staddles the DuPage County/Kane County line about 40 miles west of Chicago along Interstate 88 on the banks of the Fox River. It has large railroad yards and a variety of manufactures, including paper and plastic products, rods and bearings, controls (thermostats), foods, and consumer goods.
It was one of the first cities to use electricity for street lighting (1881). A riverboat casino opened in the city in 1993.
Community attractions include the Paramount Arts Centre, Walter Payton's Roundhouse Complex & Museum, the Ageless Classics Museum, Phillips Park Golf Club and the Michael Jordan Golf Center.
The main branch of Aurora University, founded in 1893 as Mendota Seminary in Mendota, is located here.

The city is the location of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. A major Hindu temple is located near IMSA.
There are two Malls within Aurora city limits: The Fox Valley Mall (which opened in the 1970s and is now known as Westfield Shoppingtown Fox Valley), itself a large indoor mall with four anchor tenants, is also surrounded by many shopping and dining complexes (most commonly a series of "strip malls"), along Illinois State Route 59 in the DuPage County portion of the city, near Naperville. The second is the "Chicago Premium Outlets Mall," (opened in 2004) which, despite the name, is accessible from the Farnsworth Road (North) exit off of Interstate 88, and lies fully within Aurora city limits.
There are three independent school districts with headquarters in Aurora, and students living in Aurora also attend schools of the Batavia, Illinois and Oswego, Illinois school districts.
Phillips Park GC is a public 18-hole, par 70, 5,625-yard course. Only one set of tees are rated at 66.8 with a slope of 109 for the men while the ladies play a 67.5-rated course with the same slope as the men.
Players can improve their games at the Michael Jordan Golf Center, an educational facility where professionals videotape and analyze swings or give lessons on a state-of-the art driving range. It offers heated and lighted outdoor tees, an NBA-themed 18-hole miniature golf course and a complete pro shop.
Aurora University is an intimate 3,000-student, four-year institution of higher learning located on 27 acres in northeastern Illinois in Kane County. In addition, a branch campus is located in Williams Bay just across the Wisconsin state line near Geneva Lake.
